What's it all about...

Welcome to the high octane world of Olivia Wolfe.

As an investigative journalist, Wolfe lives her life in constant peril. Hunted by numerous enemies who are seldom what the first seem, she must unravel a complex web of lies to uncover an even more terrifying truth.

From the poppy palaces of Afghanistan and Antarctica's forbidding wind-swept ice sheets, to a top-secret military base in the Nevada desert, Wolfe's journey will ultimately lead her to a man who would obliterate civilisation. She must make an impossible choice: save a life - or prevent the death of millions.

My thoughts about it ...

This is the first book in a proposed new series which will feature investigative journalist , Olivia Wolfe. The story begins with a very vivid description of life at Lake Ellsworth in Antarctica and the difficulties being faced by a group of scientists whose presence on the lake is causing some concern. A series of mysterious incidents results in Wolfe being sent to the settlement in order to use her journalistic skills in order to discover more about what is really going on there.

The action is well maintained and the fast and furious nature of the story takes the reader on a roller coaster of a journey which fluctuates between the ice cold of an Antarctic Research station through to top secret military bases in the Nevada desert. The imagery of life on the edge of Antarctica is very realistic, particularly the efforts needed just to survive in the bone crunching cold of the environment. I enjoyed seeing somewhere that was unfamiliar to me being brought to life in such an exciting way.

As with any new series there is an element of getting to know the main characters and I think that the author has done a good job in making the story engrossing early on, which can only mean that readers who have enjoyed this first book in the Olivia Wolfe series will be eagerly anticipating just where this feisty journalist will pitch up next.

Best read with...a glass of eye wateringly cold Russian Vodka...
