📖 Blog Tour ~ An Italian Island Summer by Sue Moorcroft

Avon
25 May 2023

My thanks to the publisher
and to Rachel's Random Resources for the invitation to the blog tour

After her marriage falls apart, Ursula Quinn is offered the chance to spend the summer working at a hotel on a beautiful island off the coast of Sicily, Italy. Excited by a new adventure, she sets off at once. At Residenza dei Tringali, Ursula receives a warm welcome from everyone except Alfio, son of the Tringali family. He gave up his life in Barcelona to help his mother Agata with the ailing business, and is frustrated with Ursula’s interference–and she in turn is less than impressed with his attitude. As they spend more time together, though, they begin to see each other in a different light. But what with Ursula’s ex-husband on her tail, family secrets surfacing and an unexpected offer that makes Alfio question his whole life, there’s plenty to distract them from one another. Can she face her past and he his future, and together make the most of their Sicilian summer.

📖 My Review..

After a disastrous marriage break-up Ursula Quinn escapes to the beautiful Italian island of Ortigia in Sicily to take up the offer of boarding at Residenza dei Tringali in return for helping with general hotel duties. This leaves Ursula time to explore her gift for creating ceramics and experiencing tutelage with a talented ceramist. All seems to be going well until Alfio, the son of the hotelier arrives home, and he and Ursula don't get off to the best of starts but gradually the atmosphere between them softens and Ursula soon finds her life heading in an unexpected direction.

I loved the rapport between Ursula and Alfio which helps to bring a real feeling of Italian sunshine to what is, in effect, a lovely, love story. Alongside the romantic element of the story there's also lots of complicated family dynamics to contend with but that's what this author does so well, her characters are always believable with real life issues which sometimes get in the way of life and love. The wonderfully quaint island of Ortigia comes alive in the beautiful descriptions of life on the island. The sights, sounds and aromas of an Italian summer are imaginatively recreated so that it really does feel like you are sitting alongside Ursula and Alfio as they sip ice cool Birra Moretti, relishing the cool of a Sicilian evening.

Beautifully written as all these author's stories are  An Italian Island Summer is a perfect summer read, ideal for long, lazy afternoons in the garden.

📖 Blog Tour ~ A White Christmas on Winter Street by Sue Moorcroft

Avon
27 October 2022

My thanks to the publisher for my copy of the book
and to Rachel's Random Resources for the invitation to the blog tour

When Sky Terran returns to the village of Middledip after losing the job she loves, she anticipates a quiet Christmas getting used to her new life. However, the annual street decoration competition is coming up and this year, the residents of Winter Street are determined to win.

As she is pulled into the preparations, Sky quickly grows to love the quirky, tight-knit community she is now part of. Including the extremely handsome Daz, who soon becomes more than just a friendly neighbour.

But when Daz’s ex turns up determined to win him back and it seems he might not be the man Sky thought he was, she remembers how much allowing people into her life – and heart – can hurt. As the snow falls, will she and Daz find a way through – and help win a Christmas victory for Winter Street?

📖 My Review..

I can think of no better treat than to sit down on a cold winter's afternoon with a cup of hot chocolate and the latest festive read from Sue Moorcroft.

There was so much to find out and enjoy about the lovely house on Winter Street which Sky Terran buys on her return to the village of Middledip. With painful memories of her past and with an aching vulnerability Sky throws herself, enthusiastically, into becoming part of this lovely village community which is helped all the more by her attraction to the handsome Daz, who, very soon, becomes more than just a friend.

With a wonderfully warm spirit the story oozes charm and all the sparkle of the festive season comes gloriously to life. From the switch on of the village Christmas lights, to hosting the Christmas Tree competition, Sky is determined to become part of the village community but when something unexpectedly happens Sky is once again left with doubts about her personal life.

I have loved spending time in Middledip and was really sorry to say goodbye to the characters who over the course of the story became as familiar as friends. I especially loved the burgeoning relationship between Sky and Daz and hoped that the sizzle of passion which flared between wouldn't be extinguished once the Christmas lights went out. The other characters who flit in and out of the story also have their special time in the spotlight and added such charm to the story.

Beautifully written, and with a warm glow of sparkly Christmas lights, A White Christmas on Winter Street is the perfect stress buster for the weeks leading up to Christmas. So relax, kick of your shoes, get the hot chocolate and escape to the festive loveliness of Winter Street.

☕Best read with.. a glass of hot chocolate and one of Marietta's chocolate brownies

📖 Blog Tour ~ Summer at the French Café by Sue Moorcroft

Avon
Harper Collins
12 May 2022

My thanks to the publishers for my copy of the book
and to Rachel's Random Resources for the invitation to the blog tour

Sparkling sun, strolls in the gorgeous French countryside, that first sip of cool, crisp wine – Summer is Kat’s favourite season. And this year should be no exception…

As soon as Kat Jenson set foot in the idyllic French village of Kirchhoffen, she knew she’d found her home.

Now she has a dreamy boyfriend, a delightful dog and the perfect job managing a bustling book café in the vibrant Parc Lemmel.

But when she learns her boyfriend isn’t all he seems, it’s the start of a difficult summer for Kat. Vindictive troublemakers, work woes and family heartache follow, and the clear blue sky that was her life suddenly seems full of clouds.

Then she gets to know the mysterious Noah, and her sun begins to shine brighter than ever. But Noah has problems of his own – ones that could scupper their new-found happiness. Together, can they overcome their many obstacles, and find love again?

📖 My Review...

Parc Lemmel is a wonderful place to spend a holiday, maybe having fun on the funfair rides or taking part in water activities on the lake but the best place, by far, is spending time at the Livres et Café, a wonderful place to sit for a while with delicious French pastries on offer with the tantalising aroma of freshly brewed coffee in the air, and the promise of a best selling novel to while away a sunny afternoon. Kat Jensen, the conscientious manager of the Livres et Café, seems to have the perfect life, a handsome boyfriend and a fulfilling job but when things start to go wrong she finds help and support from a wonderful character called Noah who, it must be said, has his own share of personal problems.

What's always guaranteed with a Sue Moorcroft novel, and this is no exception, is an amazing array of characters who give the story such a warm and compassionate feel that it's a real delight to spend time with all of them. Bringing to perfect life Kat's dilemma as she faces, not just problems in her personal life but also in her business life and the way she copes with everything that life has thrown at her is what makes this such an engrossing story. It goes without saying that each novel is beautifully written which seamlessly immerses the reader in the imaginative world which this talented author creates so skillfully.

Totally unputdownable, Summer at the French Café has definitely stolen its way into my heart, with Kat, Noah and the delightful, Angelique taking centre stage in a wonderful story which brings the French region of Alsace to glorious life. As always, a perfect afternoon in the garden sort of read.

📖 Best Read with..a rich expresso and a delicious Pain au Chocolat

📖 Blog Tour ~ Under the Italian Sun by Sue Moorcroft

📖 Delighted to host today's blog tour stop 📖

A warm, sun-baked terrace.

The rustle of verdant green vines.

The sun slowly dipping behind the Umbrian mountains.

And the chink of wine glasses as the first cork of the evening is popped…

Welcome to Italy. A place that holds the answer to Zia-Lucia Costa Chalmers’ many questions. Not least, how she ended up with such a mouthful of a name.

When Zia discovers that her mother wasn’t who she thought she was, she realises the time has come to search out the Italian family she’s never known.

However, as she delves into the secrets of her past, she doesn’t bargain on having to think about her future too. But with local vineyard owner, Piero, living next door, Zia knows she has a serious distraction who may prove difficult to ignore…

This summer, join Zia as she sets out to uncover her past. But can she find the future she’s always dreamed of along the way?

📖 My Thoughts..

Zia-Lucia Costa Chalmers has always been intrigued by her unusual name and with the time now right she is determined to find out as much as she can about her Italian heritage and of the family secrets which have been hidden from her for far too long.

Travelling to Montelibertà in Italy with her best friend Ursula, Zia is nervous about what she will find in this pretty Italian town but Zia is determined to find out the truth about what happened over thirty years ago. Zia does her best to search out the truth and in doing so she discovers far more about herself in the process, especially about what she wants from life.... and love.

Combining an interesting story about complex family secrets with a smattering of romance is what this author does best and I was as much interested in Zia discovering the secrets about her past as I was in her burgeoning relationship with Piero, the local vineyard owner who lives next door.

Stepping into the Italian sunshine with this talented author is like being transported into the warmth and beauty of a summer afternoon with the scent of Cypress all around and the sound of cicadas carried on the warm Umbrian breeze. Beautifully descriptive of time and place, Under the Italian Sun  is every bit as good as I knew it would be as nothing from this author ever disappoints. It's perfect escapism for this difficult time when we are unable to travel very far away from our favourite armchair. It makes a great holiday read and even if we can’t travel too far afield this beautifully written story certainly brings a little bit of much needed sunshine into a grey and unsettled world.

🎄 Christmas Book Review ~ Christmas Wishes by Sue Moorcroft

🎅Welcome to my week of Christmas Reads to get you in the festive spirit🎅

Avon Books
29 October 2020

My thanks to the publishers for my copy of this book

Hannah and Nico are meant to be together.

But fate is keeping them apart…

When Hannah bumps into her brother Rob’s best friend Nico in Stockholm, the two rekindle a fast friendship. But Hannah has a boyfriend – and Nico has two children to look after. When Hannah loses her beloved shop in Stockholm, though, she is forced to move back to the little village of Middledip – only to find Nico has just moved in too. Under the same snowy sky, can the childhood friends make a romance work – or are there too many obstacles standing in their way?

What did I think about it..

When a face from the past enters into Hannah Goodbody's shop in Stockholm she is taken back to the time when Nico Pettersson was her brother's best friend and she was the little sister that was distinctly 'out of bounds'. There's a delicious spark of attraction between them but both their lives are complicated and neither is in a position to start a new relationship, however, it would seem that fate has much more in store for these lovely characters.

Set partially in snowy Sweden and the fictional village of rural Middledip regular readers will recognise a few characters from this author's previous Middledip stories but of course Christmas Wishes can be read as a standalone story. I've really loved getting know these characters who each bring such warmth to the story that you can't help but be drawn into their troubled lives. Both Hannah and Nico have complications which threaten to overwhelm them but gradually over the space of the story they come to realise that with the help of family and friends problems which seem insurmountable can be overcome.

Christmas Wishes has a lovely festive feel without being overly Christmassy and setting the story partially in Sweden allows a fascinating glimpse into the traditions and culture of another country. I enjoyed my virtual visit to Stockholm and the author's vivid description of the snow and the cold bring the place to life in such a wonderful way. By coincidence I was reading this book on the thirteenth of December which is St Lucia's day in Sweden and the author brings this so magically to life that I felt as if I was attending the St Lucia church service with Hannah.

Beautifully written, with all the lovely little details which this talented author does so well, Christmas Wishes is a story which looks at the magic of tradition, the love of family and friends, and the joy of a new relationship which survives against all odds.

🎄Best read with slices of chocolate cherry cake and a glass of champagne

Blog Tour ~ A Summer to Remember by Sue Moorcroft

COME AND SPEND SUMMER BY THE SEA!

WANTED! A caretaker for Roundhouse Row holiday cottages.

WHERE? Nelson’s Bar is the perfect little village. Nestled away on the Norfolk coast we can offer you no signal, no Wi-Fi and – most importantly – no problems!

WHO? The ideal candidate will be looking for an escape from their cheating scumbag ex-fiancé, a diversion from their entitled cousin, and a break from their traitorous friends.

WHAT YOU’LL GET! Accommodation in a chocolate-box cottage, plus a summer filled with blue skies and beachside walks. Oh, and a reunion with the man of your dreams.

PLEASE NOTE: We take no responsibility for any of the above scumbags, passengers and/or traitors walking back into your life…

My thoughts..

When Clancy Moss suffers a devastating event in both her personal and business life, she escapes to the tiny hamlet of Nelson's Bar, a tiny seaside village hidden away on the Norfolk coast. There she takes over the responsibility of looking after a group of holiday homes, a job which should, on the surface, offer a quiet respite, but as Clancy finds out to her cost, old memories run deep and first she must win over the trust of the villagers who have just cause to be wary.

What then follows is a beautifully written story about fresh opportunities, the joy of new friendships and the importance of learning how to put past troubles behind you. The wonderful characters who live in the quirky village of Nelson’s Bar are an interesting bunch, and add such a joyous feel to the story, especially Dilys and Ernie, who made me laugh, however, it was the lovely, Aaron who added such a special feel to the story.

There are a few authors whose books I can’t wait to read, and who I know will never let me down, and as always, this talented author has struck gold again with a story which warmed my heart right from the very beginning. I fell in love with the characters, the wild Norfolk setting, and became so invested in the story that I really wanted everything to work out well, but of course, as always, you must read it for yourself to find out what happens.

A Summer to Remember is an absolutely perfect summer read by an author who really knows how to bring a story alive in the imagination. I do hope we meet up again with the inhabitants of Nelson's Bar in future stories.

🎄 Fabulously Festive with Sue Moorcroft 🎄

In the run up to Christmas, I have wonderful author interviews to help get you into the festive spirit

Here's the fabulous, Sue Moorcroft

A very festive welcome to you, Sue and thank you for spending this special time with Jaffareadstoo

🎄What’s your earliest Christmas Memory?

I think I must have been four. We were living in Hampshire as we were an army family and my dad was stationed at Aldershot at the time. We were living out-of-barracks though, in a village called Cove. It’s the first memory I have of coming downstairs with my big brothers and finding all our presents waiting. I had a yellow doll’s cot as my main present, with a bride doll. Mum had sewn bedclothes for the cot (cotclothes?), which was an act of love because she hated sewing. That doll was about the only one I remember having. I was more into robots and teddy bears. Dolls didn’t do anything and weren’t comfy to hug in bed.

🎄Do you have any special Christmas Traditions?

Boxing Day with the in-laws. Moorcroft family lunch between Christmas and New Year so that everyone can come, even if they live several hours away. It gets noisy!

🎅What’s your favourite festive carol or song?

Wizzard’s ‘I wish it could be Christmas every day’. It reminds me of my teen years.

🎅Do you have a favourite festive film?

They’re not Christmas films but the Christmas break often sees members of my family binging on ‘Star Wars’ and ‘Lord of the Rings’ movies.

🎅What’s your favourite festive read?

‘Snow in Covent Garden’ by Jules Wake. It came out last year and I loved it.

🎅Are you organised or do you leave everything until the last minute?

Organised, but grudgingly. I look for the easy way of doing everything - shopping, wrapping, cooking … Having Christmas books out makes the run-up to Christmas a lot of fun but it distracts me.

🎅Christmas tree – real or artificial?

Artificial, but one of those that looks fairly real and the lights have to be white, not different colours.

🎅Tinsel or Glitter?

Both! Why not?

🎅Christmas cracker or party popper?

Cracker. The mottos and jokes can be entertaining. I don’t like the hats though.

🎅Mince Pie or Yule Log?

Yule log. Until such time as I find there are chocolate mince pies, anyway.

🎅Christmas Dinner – Traditional Turkey, Nut Roast Veggie or something a bit different?

Traditional roast but not turkey. Usually lamb or beef.

🎅Christmas Tipple – Bucks Fizz/Mulled Wine or something stronger?

Champagne! That doesn’t mean I get it. I just like it.

🎅A fun game of after dinner charades or more chocolates and the television?

Reading’s more likely than TV, actually … but chocolates are very welcome.

What's it all about..

Georgine loves Christmas. The festive season always brings the little village of Middledip to life. But since her ex-boyfriend walked out, leaving her with crippling debts, Georgine’s struggled to make ends meet.

To keep her mind off her worries, she throws herself into organising the Christmas show at the local school. And when handsome Joe Blackthorn becomes her assistant, Georgine’s grateful for the help. Georgine’s past is going to catch up with her in ways she never expected. But can the help of friends new and old make this a Christmas to remember after all?

My thoughts about it..

There's always something exciting about reading a Christmas story and although it's only October this is one of those lovely Sue Moorcroft stories which is perfect reading for the forthcoming festive season... which will be here before we know it !

Georgine loves the festive season but this year, after a break up with her boyfriend, she is struggling to make ends meet and so, to help take her mind of her financial worries, she puts all her efforts into producing the Christmas show at, Acting Instrumental, the local performing arts college where she works as events director. However, Georgine is unprepared for the effect that her handsome new assistant, Joe Blackthorn, has on her, but, as she is about to discover, sometimes events from the past can't be kept buried forever.

The author writes her lovely stories with a cast of wonderful characters who stay with you long after you have finished reading of their adventures. I really enjoyed getting to know Georgine, as she is a feisty and determined heroine, and, of course, the added inclusion of a handsome hero, with something of a dark past, made reading the story all the more interesting! The added snippets of what goes on behind the scenes as the Acting Instrumental students get ready for their Christmas performance adds a lovely light touch which counteracts some of the darker elements of the story.

There is no doubt that the quaint village of Middledip with its snow covered streets and festive tree will get you right into the Christmas spirit with a story which is made all the more festive by being wrapped up in the most delightful cover. A Christmas Gift is a wonderful seasonal story about the possibilities of love and friendship, of being able to put the past behind you and move forward into a new future.

What's it all about..

When Sofia Bianchi’s father Aldo dies, it makes her stop and look at things afresh. Having been his carer for so many years, she knows it’s time for her to live her own life – and to fulfil some promises she made to Aldo in his final days.

So there’s nothing for it but to escape to Italy’s Umbrian mountains where, tucked away in a sleepy Italian village, lie plenty of family secrets waiting to be discovered. There, Sofia also finds Amy who is desperately trying to find her way in life after discovering her dad isn’t her biological father.

Sofia sets about helping Amy through this difficult time, but it’s the handsome Levi who proves to be the biggest distraction for Sofia, as her new life starts to take off…

My thoughts about it..

When her beloved father dies, Sofia Bianchi leaves England and travels to Montelibertà, a small Italian town tucked away in the Umbrian mountains, where her father grew up. There Sofia finds work as a waitress at Casa Felice, a family run hotel, where she befriends, Amy, a young girl who is also working as a waitress. Sofia discovers that Amy has recently left her home in Germany in order to come to terms with the discovery of a devastating family secret. And as the friendship between the two girls develops so their life at the hotel becomes entwined, especially when Levi, a handsome hotel guest, starts to feature more strongly in the story.

One Summer in Italy is a truly delightful read with a glorious setting and seemingly endless days filled with sunshine. Beautifully written and peopled with the most glorious characters who warm your heart, and who make it an absolute joy to follow where the story takes you. Sofia with her steely determination and heart of gold, Amy's angst ridden attitude and oh, so handsome Levi, with his Ducati Diavel, really make the story come alive, so that it becomes increasingly difficult to put down the book for much longer than it takes to pour another glass of Orvieto Classico, Sofia's favourite drink. There are some lovely light moments which made me smile and a really delightful portrayal of how not to run a hotel in the style of Benedetta and her odious son, Davide, whose wandering hands made me want to hit him over the head with a tea tray.

There is so much to enjoy in One Summer in Italy, not just because of the delicious frisson of romance, which runs like a ray of sunshine throughout the story, but also because of the sensitive portrayal of  the role of fathers, and their daughters, and of how family secrets, so long buried, can have far reaching consequences.

Sofia Bianchi's dying father tells her to 'Be happy, Sofia, be happy' and thanks to the skilful story telling of this talented author, reading One Summer in Italy certainly made me very happy indeed.
