📖 My Review..

Never underestimate a woman scorned and especially one that has the perfect plan for revenge and the nerve to see it through to completion. This clever short story has all the elements of this author’s special skill at drawing you into the plot from the very beginning and even though you know it’s not going to end well for someone you can’t help but be engrossed in the who, what, where and how of the modus operandi.

Coming in at 137 pages, this is an easily manageable quick read and what strikes me the most is that whilst this could so easily have been developed into a full length story, as there really is enough going on for at least another couple of hundred pages, it is also perfectly plausible to work as a succinct short story. I don’t want to reveal anything about the plot which would give all the cleverly controlled plot twists away but safe to say I was on the edge of my seat throughout and read the whole thing through in one sitting. A wronged wife, a disappointed mistress and a deceitful neighbour certainly livened up a dull afternoon on the run up to Christmas 🙂

If you’ve not read any of this talented author’s work before then A Woman Scorned would make a great introduction to his work. I’m sure that after reading this clever little revenge story, you’ll want to read more of Jack Jordan’s clever psychological fiction.

First published by Aria in 2018, A Woman Scorned has now been republished by Simon and Schuster in 2025.

📖My Review..

Paige’s life is fast spiralling out of control, with her husband dead and her daughter presumed murdered there is nothing to stop her from drinking herself into oblivion. Even hitting rock bottom is still no incentive for Paige to get her life back together and with her family concerned for her welfare she is constantly battling against them as she fights her own personal demons.

My goodness, this is a difficult book to review without giving anything away, safe to say though that I was hooked right from the very start, reading faster and faster almost in disbelief at what was unfolding before me. The author certainly knows how to crank up the tension which comes so fast and furious that I had a genuine reluctance to put the book down. There is a constant feeling of unease as I felt that Paige was never going to have an easy time of it however, the plot twist, when it came, left me reeling. I read the book in one quick sitting, deeply invested in the story, and hoping that everything would work out.

Cleverly written, with fine attention to detail, My Girl grabs your attention right from the start and doesn’t let go until the whole scary story is played out.
