My thanks to the publisher for the copy of the book to review

I wake up in a dark bedroom, gazing into a stranger’s amber eyes. He runs a hand down my cheek and whispers something that makes my heart stop: “Welcome home darling. I’m your husband.”

My whole life until this moment is gone. I have amnesia after a terrible accident, and now I just have to trust what my husband, Evan, says. But everything feels wrong, from the name he gives me, ‘Cora,’ to the home he says I loved.

As I explore our sprawling old farmhouse, I find another woman’s belongings, and Evan says they belong to the woman who lived here before us. I begin to get to know her, piecing together her life although I can’t remember mine. Why would she leave precious items behind, like her photos and her locket?

Then I hear something in the basement that sends a shiver down my spine. Evan’s elderly aunt, who lives with us, hears it too. She hisses to me, her eyes darting fearfully, ‘Get out. You’re not his wife.’

But I’m not going anywhere. Because the answers to who I am, and what happened to the woman who lived here before, are in this house.

I think Evan is lying and my life is in danger. I’m going to get the key to that basement to find out the truth.

But when my memories come flooding back, I’ll realize Evan isn’t the only one with secrets he’ll kill to protect…

πŸ“– My Review..

After a devastating accident, Cora has no recollection of her past life but her husband is so caring and fills in the gaps in her memory that she can’t help but trust him. With her husband’s elderly aunt Mary also living with them at their remote farmhouse, Cora feels that she must try her best to regain her memory so she can help with Mary’s care but then she starts to hear mysterious noises coming from the basement and pretty soon the tension really starts to creep up so that you are never really certain what is truth and what are cleverly constructed lies.

This is the type of book that you want to read in one sitting as the shocks, once they start, really do come thick and fast until you are almost afraid to turn the page for fear of what’s going to happen next. I thought all the characters in this complex plot were really well described, Cora comes across as a person who is so lost and alone and yet even though she suspects that there something going on, it’s just out of reach, and she can’t discover what is happening in this house of horrors ,until it’s too late.

Not His Wife is a suspenseful locked room thriller in which all the participants blur the boundaries in a compelling story which is clearly written by a writer who knows how to keep up the momentum of a complicated plot whilst revealing just enough clues to keep you turning the pages faster and faster.

About the Author

Liz’s story began in a refugee camp in Angola, where she spent the first eight years of her life. After that, she spent some years in Namibia (her home country), South Africa, and Germany. She now lives in Vienna, Austria, with her husband and two children. Liz wrote her first full-length novel at eighteen and hid it in a box under her bed. Several others soon followed it. Her passion lies in writing edge-of-the-seat psychological thrillers that give readers the same rush they would get on a rollercoaster.
