A book you used to love but don't any more
Forever Amber by Kathleen Winsor
Somewhere in the mid 1970's, when I first read Forever Amber, I loved this romantic and slightly risqué restoration romp. Written in 1944, this story of a good girl made bad, became a global sensation and yet because of its salacious content was actually banned in parts of the United States. I remember sneaking my mother's copy and unknown to her, read the book in bed by the light of my torch, whilst listening to radio Luxenbourg on my transistor radio !
I am sure that my love of Restoration historical novels started with Forever Amber -
When I re- read the book recently - I was perhaps a little more disappointed that the initial enjoyment had been marred by time...

I always behave impeccably and have no need of a self help book
