Pretend marriage to the earl
Sharing everything—except a bed…
To uncover a ruthless killer, Arabella Roffey masquerades as the Countess of Westray, not expecting her “husband” to suddenly appear! He could expose her but instead agrees to continue her ruse for a week. Randolph is brooding, handsome, and Bella likes him more than she should. As she pretends to be his wife, they share everything except a bed—but the temptation to do so is becoming all too real…
What did I think about it..
Randolph Kirkster, the new Earl of Westray, has just returned to England after a six year sojourn in Australia, transported there for a crime, for which he paid the ultimate price. His return to England is filled with mixed feelings which has been thrown into confusion by his unexpected elevation to the peerage. With no real thought of where his life is heading, Randolph makes for one of his new properties only to discover that a wife he didn't know existed has already take up residence there.
What then follows is a lovely romantic mystery which introduces us to Arabella Rolfe, a delightfully feisty heroine, who is more than a match for the handsome Earl, and yet, there is a delicious vulnerability between them which the author, with her usual lightness of touch, describes so beautifully. As always, the idiosyncrasies of Regency England come alive, and the unpredictability, and confusion, of trying to solve the devastating mystery which surrounds Arabella gives the story a rather dark element. However, where there is shade there is also glorious light, and the burgeoning relationship, and sizzling passion, between the Earl and his unexpected Countess is brought to life with all this author's customary enthusiasm.
His Countess for the Week continues the theme of romantic mystery and readers will certainly remember, Randolph Kirkster, and the reason for his transportation, from Pursued for the Viscount's Vengeance. New readers will, however, easily pick up the story, and you don't need to have read Pursued for the Viscount's Vengeance in order to enjoy His Countess for the Week which works beautifully as a standalone story.
