A book that makes you happy
Jo's choice
Garden Spells by Sarah Addison Allen
In an unguarded moment you might be mistaken into believing that this book is just about magic and mischief, but its underlying power takes you beyond the unexplained and into a world that is inhabited with warm and wonderful people. The Waverley women seem to draw you in from the first page :
Claire, with her wonderful ability with herbs and spices
Evanelle, with her gift of knowing what people need
Sydney, with her glorious ability to style hair
Bay, with her ability to know where things belong
The first time I read this book was I was quite simply enchanted , not just with the evocative descriptions, but with a truly magical way to live your life. It encompasses love, life, and the power of family and special friendship. It enforces the fundamental need to believe in ourselves......" You are what you are, whether you like it or not, so why not like it ...."
I love the magical realism of Sarah Addison Allen's books...they never fail to make me happy...perfect to read on a sad day, as you can't help but smile while you read.....

Aw Jaffa Baby just want to cuddle! :)
ReplyDeleteLindsay - jaffa loves cuddles any time :)
ReplyDeleteIn this book, I think that I fell in love with the tree! It broke my heart when it held it's pictures, tried to protect those it loved, and knocked people on their heads to make a point and wake them up to those around them. Just a lovely story. (Jaffa's Baby is a Q T) Pauline
ReplyDeletePauline - I loved the tree too - it was such an important part of the narrative.
ReplyDeleteI agree jaffa baby is sooooo cute - he's cute now he's older but in a less chocolate box kind of way !!
