What’s the oldest book on your bookshelf?
Hanging my head in shame as there are so many I could name. I am a bit of a book addict so if I see something I want to read, I buy it or I am lucky enough to have books sent to me by authors and/or publishers– forgetting about all those other books still waiting to be read. Stasi Child by David Young has been there a while – I have bought most of this series so need to have a binge read!
Which book do you really want to read but haven’t had time for …yet!
In Her Wake by Amanda Jennings. I've really wanted to read this for ages but when I was taking part in blog tours via my blog CrimeBookJunkie – I had to prioritise those tour reads. Now that I am writing in the evenings, I have stopped taking part in tours and now read for pleasure, work or when asked by an author friend. So - I'm going to bump this one and get it read before 2020 is done! #readinggoals
Do you have a guilty reading pleasure, and if so will you tell us about it?
I never feel guilty about reading outside of my normal genre and sometimes I just need a break from crime, or police procedurals (my favourite) so picking up a lighter, fun read always hits the spot. I really enjoy Bridget Jones books, Kim Nash, Sophie Ranald, Emma Davies, Karen Clarke, Tilly Tennant to name a few! I also love true crime books – and tend to read a lot of true crime magazines when I am in the editing phase. They sometimes spark ideas for future books!
If the house was on fire which book would you rescue?
My go to answer was always my copy of Crime & Punishment by Dostoevsky – a book I have read a million times from my late teens to the present day… but now it would have to be my signed collection of Ian Rankin's Anniversary collection – it will not burn!
Do you have a reading/writing playlist on Spotify, or a favourite CD to listen to when reading/writing? And if so will you share with us a favourite song or piece of music that makes you feel happy?
I actually read and write in complete silence so sadly I can't share a piece of music with you. But whenever I need a bit of a boost or a kick up the backside – it has to be Mr Brightside by The Killers. My #goto song for everything!
Do you have a favourite place to settle down to read/write?
I have my writing space (see pic) or the couch – that's where all my reading / writing takes place. I do also read/write in bed – or in the garden if it's nice out.
Give us four essential items that a writer absolutely needs?
For me it would be:
· An idea
· A notebook and pencils
· Sticky notes
· Coffee
What can you tell us about your latest novel, or your current work in progress?
I am currently writing Book 4 (untitled) in the DC Maggie Jamieson series. Dead Wrong (Book 2) is out now and the third book (cover and titled to be revealed) will be out in October 2020. All my books can be read as a stand-alone – but I tend to leave a teaser final chapter to entice readers to carry on with the series. My current WIP (Work in Progress) brings back some characters from the first book – for instance, Lucy Sherwood (probation) and also focuses on a case that will send ripples through DC Maggie Jamieson's current team in the Major and Organised Crime Department. There will be murders and some twists. That's all I can say! Ha ha ha!
