One ever hangs where shelled roads part.
In this war He too lost a limb,
But His disciples hide apart;
And now the Soldiers bear with Him.
Near Golgotha strolls many a priest,
And in their faces there is pride
That they were flesh-marked by the Beast

The scribes on all the people shove
And bawl allegiance to the state,
But they who love the greater love

The Battle of the Ancre (13–18 November), was the final large British attack of the Battle of the Somme in 1916.

On 4 November 1918 Wilfred Owen was killed while attempting to lead his men across the Sambre canal at Ors. The news of his death reached his parents on 11 November, Armistice Day.
