A Book that disappointed you
The only exception to this rule is when I review books. and then I do try to complete the book in order to make a sound judgement...
A recent book that really disappointed me was :
One Day by David Nicholls
I know - I can hear everyone saying - "Oh, I loved that one - great book, great movie..."
It just didn't do it for me - I felt the whole thing was contrived, and almost purposely written with a movie deal in mind......and I so wanted to like it, I was disappointed in myself that I didn't enjoy it more...I thought the beginning was ok - as was the end - it was more the bit in the middle that disappointed me....

I started One Day and got a bit bored, I do intend to read it but so many people seem to have loved it and I wasn't that keen.

ReplyDelete80 pages? You're much more generous that I am. I give it 50 pages or 3 chapters and then it's quits. But to be fair to books, sometimes it's more me than them. Sometimes you're in the mood for chocolate and other times filet mignon. Neither one is good or bad but when you are in the mood for one, the other just won't do. Pauline
ReplyDeletePauline - I agree that sometimes the reader is at fault more than the book - I have gone on to re read a book I've previously given up on and then enjoyed it ...I like your analogy !!
