Blog Tour ~ Hungry for Love by Lucy Beresford

Jaffareadstoo is delighted to be part of the Hungry for Love Blog Tour

It's a real pleasure to welcome the author ~ Lucy Beresford

Hi Lucy, it's lovely to see you and thanks for spending time with us today....

Tell us a little about Lucy Beresford, author

Hi there, well the Author in me is still pinching myself for being able to describe myself as such. It’s a wonderful feeling to be published, and I’m really grateful that it’s happened. When I’m not scribbling notes in note-books, I’m hosting a sex and relationships show on LBC – there are quite a few cheeky sex scenes in this novel. And I love cooking. I thrash out major plot knots by kneading bread – it’s extremely therapeutic!

How long have you been writing and what got you started?

At primary school I loved it when we had to write stories. I was always using my friends’ names as the characters and the best bit was getting to read out the stories to the class - so I guess I’ve been writing for decades. But it took years before I plucked up the courage to leave my job in banking and commit to writing. I now write from a garret in the attic, with a family of pigeons who dance outside my window. They are currently feeling very smug as they make several appearances in “Hungry for Love"

What inspired you to write Hungry for Love and what can you tell us about it that won’t give too much away?

“Hungry for Love” is about what happens when Jax (daughter of a famous TV chef) cancels her wedding on the day by text. The more Jax treats herself with respect, the more she finds love where she least expects it. I got the idea for the opening of the novel when I received a text like the one Jax sends, cancelling a wedding on the day. I’m delighted to report that in real life, both parties are now happily married to other people.

Are you a plotter...or ...a start writing and see where it takes you sort of writer?

I’m definitely a plotter – although in my first novel “Something I’m Not”, one of my characters announced that he was planning on adopting a child, and to this day I don’t know where that idea came from. In this novel, I have four men vying for Jax’s hand and for several drafts I wasn’t sure which man deserved her. Now I know!

What were the challenges you faced whilst writing this novel?

I ought to say it was the sex scenes, but because they all revolve around food, those scenes were enormous fun to write. I’d say the biggest challenge was writing about Caryl whose story is darker than Jax’s. Caryl has an eating disorder and in my work as a psychotherapist it was important for me to write about this difficult illness in an accessible way.

What do you hope that readers will take away from Hungry for Love?

I want readers to enjoy the humour and playful parts of the book, and maybe try out some of the recipes scattered through the story - but also I want readers to know that even when your life is falling apart, you time for joy will come again.

How can readers discover more about you and your work?

Readers can contact me on Twitter @lucyberesford My website is www.lucyberesford.co.uk and of course they can listen to me, 8-10pm on Saturday nights on LBC 97.3
